    Answer

Every tree is different, and therefore each individual board of timber will be different too. The colour and grain will allow the timber treatment process to penetrate the boards differently. Colour differences will usually become less pronounced over time but a consistent colour without variation will never be achieved.

    Answer

Essentially, timber is treated to add an extra layer of durability, enhancing its suitability for purpose and extending its service life. These treatments permeate wood cells, creating a resistance against decay, pests, weather, fire, or general day to day use. The exact type of treatment will vary according to purpose. For example, timber used for fencing will need a coating to protect against weathering, which will usually be a UC3 or UC4 pressure treatment. Most timber will be treated against boring insects and decay, both of which can substantially reduce its structural integrity.

    Answer

Different boards of timber will be available in different grades, and some will not be graded whatsoever. Please look at the notes on the individual products pages

    Answer

Splitting in the timber is part of the natural drying process in hot weather and in some cases, these splits can close in wetter conditions and should not be viewed as flaws. Timber can shrink significantly in width, and also a small amount in the length in some cases. Due to the natural structure of the timber these changes can sometimes also cause some twisting or distortion which we are unable to predict in manufacture but have no effect on the structural integrity of the finished article.

    Answer

Timber has been used in construction for millennia due to its longevity and durability. In fact, it can hold a load up to 14 times heavier than steel. Properly designed structures can last for decades without needing any maintenance beyond an occasional coat of paint or varnish. Complementing its natural strength, timber is extremely flexible, meaning that movement over time generally fails to cause damage.
